Yeah I read it in great depth but maybe they could have switched it around.

It's unfortunate that I have yet to see the male lowland nyala, bush baby (which is on my bucket list[not that I have one]), and the two kudus.:(

Hopefully both the langurs and the geladas will pop(ulation,I know bad joke;)) again.

I believe there was always two mangroves?

I am actually surprised that the Bronx din't announce the baby gorilla.(Even for the Bronx odd that they don't tell the public?!)

I perfer sifakas the crowned lemurs anyway.

Avibase lists Anthracoceros malabaricus as a synonym for Anthracoceros coronatus which is the Malabar Pied Hornbill.

Are the Maxwell duikers are kept in the Carter Building only indoors, and weher excactly ? Please don't tell me togehter with the Ardvaarks ?

Once again, the duikers are in the nocturnal Aardvark enclosure inside the Carter Giraffe Building and are only exhibited there. They do not have an outdoor enclosure afaik.


I've also just realized I forgot to mention four things:
-There is a Tawny Frogmouth mixed with the kiwi in the Aquatic Bird House.
-The SeaBird Aviary has a new goose species. I believe it was mentioned on this thread in the past but I don't think it was confirmed and I can't find the post that named the species.
-The indoor coastline enclosure in the Aquatic Bird House is under construction.
-The Pygmy Marmoset enclosure in CGF has been completely dismantled and is an empty space now.

did you get a photo of the large yellow bird?
 
I feel so Sorry for the poor duikers..and the aardvarks. But this is America...one of the best zoos in the States ? Really ?

I did. It'll get up eventually. I didn't get that great a look but from memory it kind of struck as sort of looking like an oropendola with yellow and some black:p

I will guess in advance as it being an oriole, probably black-naped or golden. Although I have a vague recollection that the Bronx has/had African golden oriole?
 
I was at the Bronx zoo last easter. I photographed a duiker OUTSIDE in front of the nyla. i will post the photo when i return from a lecture tour i am on. The crowned lemurs were with the ring tailed lemurs. A very kind docent showed me the mouse lemurs. Did see the lions, tigers and snow leopards out,too. it was a very nice day and the animals were very active. I have been to many zoos in North and south America, Europe, too. my most recent visit to the Bronz zoo confirmed my personal opinion that in overall quality of animal care and exhibits it is still the best in the world, despite cutbacks that closed the nocturnal house and small primate area.

And when will that be?:p

Are you sure the lemurs weren't the Collared Lemurs? As you can tell, the zoo has quite a few lemurs (and used to have more!)

Because ethis is not the way to keep duikers neither aardvarks...Many Years ago, some european zoo has kept Blu duiker also in nocturnal houses, but fortunately, tehy stopepd it andput them into outside enclosures.The same with aardvarks-all german zoo keeping them in nocturnal hosues, but in the most other euroepan countries,tehy have access to outdorryeards.Im think, this is much better for them than to be kept in small nocturnal house exhibts.

But as far as I know, the Bronx-zoo put the Mawell Duikers out of the aardvark exhibit-when I've visted the zoo, they already had left the exhibit and moved to Congo.Thats why I asked again, if they are back in the aardvark exhibit ? But for what reasons-Congo shas space enough for the little guys...
 
The duikers used to be in CGF for years before being moved into the giraffe house. The sign in CGF is still there, though.

There are two gorilla babies born this January now on display at the Congo Forest. Thylacinealive; you might have missed one.

And on the WCS photoblog the blog discusses the birth of a Grey Winged Trumpter born last year. The keeper who wrote the blog wrote that this was the first chick born to captive bred parents in North America.

I know for the big species they do announce, but I do wish they were more on top of announcing these other births they have throughout the year.

It seems, the Bronx-Zoo is one of the few zoos in the world who makes the living conditions for some of his animals more worse than better....
