And, to be fair, the zoo would probably have to employ someone full-time to deal with the deluge of questions which would ensue!!

I'd be very surprised if an organisation of this size did not have a full-time - or near full-time - employee, charged with monitoring, responding to and generating social media.

I little harsh

If you look at the post a few hours before this one of yours the zoo replied to Bongorob with:

"In terms of animal queries, we won't be able to answer all of those via ZooChat but any specific enquiries could always be sent to animalandplant@chesterzoo.org Thanks. CZ."

That is NOT being totally ignored!

Agree! And judging by Bongo Rob's post in the current Chester thread the zoo answered his query..... :)

I would like to thank the zoo for their very quick response to my questions on the islands project and species to be located in the project

Does anyone know of any new snake species that are being included within islands? Would love to see some Papuan or white lipped pythons added to the collection.

Im really looking forward to seeing the new Islands , im lucky to get tickets for day one of the members day :)

Hello,
What date is this and will you please immediately post pictures here :)

hi im going on the 10th july , it then opens to the rest of the public on the 13th :) I will post some pictures for you once i have sorted them :)

I'm booked early on the 10th and I aim to take a lot of photos. However I am very much aware that this should be the biggest event at a British zoo for a decade and I don't want to do anything to spoil the experience of people booked on later previews. So I am wondering when to put the photos in our Gallery. I think I might restrict myself to one photo and a one para general comment until the official opening.
What do other ZooChatters think about this?

No! Put the photos up! :D If people don't want to see the spoilers, they can avoid the Chester Zoo gallery and forum for a couple of days. There are plenty of interested ZooChatters that can't wait to see Islands.

Im going to the 11am one but we are getting there very early to get a car space , i was speaking to one of the staff in the information place and they couldn't believe the amount of interest they have had in it , i know loads of members who couldn't get tickets due to this , i feel lucky to of managed to get 3 , i will see what comes in on my pictures to see what i post , i don't mind posting just one sneak peak or more than one

I understand this, but please remember that because of the long series of ZooChat 'walks and talks' at Chester, many of the Chester ZooChatters are personal friends and we often meet at Zoo events and bump into each on our zoo visits. I would prefer to make people who have never been to Chester wait a couple of days longer rather than to disappoint my friends. I am sure that there will be a good deal of material available in the press, on YouTube and the Chester website.

I think it might be a good idea to set up a temporary Gallery for Islands photos, which can be merged with Chester Gallery after a few weeks.

An interesting idea - feel free to suggest it in the gallery request thread.

There's going to be a lot of us there on the Friday. I too have tickets! Perhaps we should wear something distinctive - a big yellow ZC badge?

:)

Some might say it is easy to spot the zoochatters without any ID as we will usually spend 4x longer at every exhibit, spend a disproportionate time at the more obscure species, go back for return visits if we didn't see what we were looking for first time around and be the last to leave!!

See if you can spot me by that behaviour - I too will be there Friday from 12pm (til 6pm no doubt!).

On an other point - I remember Tim Rowlands suggesting that this years walk and talk be exclusively in Islands...... Are those in the know ware if this is still on the cards??

the preview days are 10,1 and 12 July.

I am not bothered if people post pictures before I go (12th), or not, but GentleLemur has a point.

The Islands site is open to anyone from 13th July, and I think for a week or two before the schools finish it will not be very busy during the week.
