the opening day was originally mooted to be in April or May, but slippage occurred!
To be precise, previews start on 10/07/2015, which for the benefit of our international readers is Friday, 10th of July. Islands opens to all visitors on Monday, 13th July.11/07/2015the opening day was originally mooted to be in April or May, but slippage occurred!
A month to go, surely animals will be starting to move in shortly.
Chester tourist Information Centre and Crewe railway Station both have a large stock of leaflets proclaiming Islands at Chester Zoo Opens June 2015.
Obviously they haven't taken them down and put the new dates up which have been known for at least a few weeks
No but would have been alot better if they had the overprinted with the new date, which would have been very possible to do!The leaflets will have been printed months ago in huge numbers. Hardly sensible or practical to pulp them and reprint.
1.1 false gharial have been despatched from La ferme aux crocodiles in France for islands.

From what I've been reading, it seems that, for such a large developement, there will not be very many 'new' species added to the Chester collection. (compared to Leipzig for example.) Most of the 'Islands inhabitants' will be species moved from other parts of the Zoo?. Not a criticism, just a query/observation.

The vast majority of new species will be reptiles/fish/amphibians/insects etc for the monsoon forest exhibit. Am sure I have read somewhere that almost 1,000 individual animals have been added to the collection for Islands ( although granted they are all very small!!)
