Well, the reference to "making my way back home" implies a taxon which is being reintroduced; of those taxa for which Bronx is involved in breeding and reintroduction, only one that I can think of is connected to dams - the Kihansi Spray Toad, which went extinct due to habitat destruction connected to the construction of a dam.

I assume the borough means the Bronx itself :p

So..... Kihansi Spray Toad?

what I meant was that the clue said damed. I had to re-find ThylacineAlive's answer to my earlier query to find he did mean dammed (or damned by connection) and damed had nothing to do with it. So I deleted my post.
 
I think it means Miami:
