Lincoln Park Zoo Lincoln Park Zoo 2015

I was here last week on Wednesday. Various disorganized, messy notes:
  • Construction has already begun over the former Bear Line for the new penguin and polar bear habitats, and it looks like they will be marketed as two separate exhibits: Robert and Mayari Pritzker Penguin Cove and Walter Family Arctic Tundra. No other new details seemed available.
  • As a consequence of this construction, the outdoor Savannah area for Regenstein African Journey is closed: the giraffes can be viewed indoors but the Ostrich have moved to the Antelope-Zebra Area, where I saw them. Never saw the other species in the Savannah habitat before, unsure where they are now.
  • The new Japanese Macaque exhibit was a mixed experience. The habitat itself looked fantastic but the monkeys did not spend much time near the two main glass windows. We did get one treat: Obu and mom came right by the glass on their way to the Research Station! Is there more to the viewing experience of the exhibit? I had trouble navigating the new West Gate area,
  • I did get a chance to see the aforementioned Chacoan Peccary at the Antelope-Zebra Area, as well as the Ostriches and Grevy's Zebras on three separate occasions.
  • Regenstein Center for African Apes was very active and for the first time in years I saw gorillas outside - we also got to see the new baby right by the glass! Part of the area is roped off for privacy but little kids kept crawling under to glimpse her.
  • The new Snow Leopard had signage up but did not see the animal. Who used to be in their exhibit at the Lion House? I didn't see the full set of exhibits this time. Did see the Pallas' Cat and Red Panda areas, although the new Red Panda was only sleeping in a tree. The lions spent almost the entire time in the doorway between their indoor and outdoor exhibits, visible through the openings.
  • Inside the Lion House... the Tiger put on a big show for guests roaring and coming close to the front, and I got my first glimpse in years of the zoo's elderly Serval, including eating a meal and sleeping.
  • At Regenstein African Journey, got to see the zoo's three Eastern Black Rhinoceroses, who were absent on my last few visits. Also inside, the Black-and-White Colobus Monkey were absent, but they were all in Primate House.

EDIT: After checking the LPZ website, it looks like the Amur leopard is gone. No idea what happened here.
