SeaWorld San Antonio Sea World San Antonio News

From what I hear she really put up a fight and the Staff really did a lot to try to save her. Here is the Park commenting on her passing:

SeaWorld Saddened to Announce Passing of Killer Whale

They claim that the strain she had was resistant to treatment, I hope that this isn't some new superbug that is about to descend on us all.

I remember reading somewhere they tried "innovative" treatments as well. I do hope we learned something about the treatment of candida though,so no other whale has to go through this. This brings San Antonio down to only 5 whales, and Unna was particularly beloved. :(

That saddens me about Unna. It also concerns me about the welfare of the remaining whales. If she died from an infection, is it possible that the others can contract it? I hope not. I hope they figure out what it was and fix it before any of the others get sick.

It occurred to me, Takara must be running things now, if she wasn't already. How could she not be, shes the only adult female and the other two females are her daughters.

According to two sources I've read, Unna was the matriarch of the San Antonio group,so it looks like Takara will be running things now. Hopefully she'll do a good job, unlike her daughter Kohana over at Loro Parque. Takara has the benefit of age and observing Unna and Kasatka though. I guess we'll see.

I think I know what delayed the Azul show yesterday... :(

In brighter news, ten Chinstrap Penguins hatched in January. There is a Wild Days celebration going on, during the weekends of February with different celebrities hosting a show, SeaWorld Live. Today and yesterday, at least, had the two youngest penguins (35 and 40 days old, the 35 day old one is a girl, I wasn't told about the other one) in them. After the show we got to touch them. Baby penguins are really soft. The rest of them are on exhibit is the Penguin Encounter.

Darn it, I hate hearing that Dart died, I really like the species. How old was Dart? It seems as if SWSA hasn't had much in the way of breeding Lags in the past few years; most of the breeding seems to be going on in Miami and at the Shedd.

I'm so happy to hear about the Penguins.

He was twelve. I also really like the species, can't wait to get over to Shedd aquarium for the underwater viewing. I was very happy about the Penguins, because a) chinstraps are struggling a bit in captivity (nothing to be worried about though) and b) I got to touch one! It was so cute and the softest thing ever!

According to the Facebook page "Stand with SeaWorld", a beluga whale was born this morning. I don't know how reliable this is, but there has not been a public announcement by the park as far as I know. I can think of several reasons for them not to make an announcement, however: for example, the last one died, and SeaWorld really doesn't need that bad publicity right now.
