Ever since Elephas did his http://www.zoochat.com/38/elephants-uk-406157/ research I have started to a bit of my own research and decided to research the orange people of the UK.

There are currently 55 Orangutans; 38 Bornean, 16 Sumatran & 1 Hybrid

Current UK Holdings are:
Blackpool Zoo
Chester Zoo
Colchester Zoo
Dudley Zoo Gardens
Durrell Wildlife Park
Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre
Paignton Zoo
Twycross Zoo

I am currently working on one for Rhinoceros in the UK but if anyone could suggest any other bits of research for me to do, feel free to say.

Would it be a good idea for Dudley's Jorong to take a trip to Paignton in the near future?

That would be an idea but I imagine Paignton will not get a new male until the 2 youngsters have reached maturity. I doubt Jorong will go there if they do require a new male they will probably get one from somewhere in Europe.

The only female at Paignton without a baby is Gambira. As the two mothers can't be kept together they are short on space for other individuals so a new male is out of the question at present. A better option would be to send Gambira out on breeding loan to e.g. Dudley.

I really thought there'd be more.

I can only count 15 Sumatrans. 6 at Chester, 6 at Jersey (technically, is that UK?), 3 at Monkey World.

I also note that apart from Monkey World there's only 1 remaining wild-caught Orang (Martha at Chester).

There are 7 at Chester, I have missed out Tuti will post updated version now....

It's Subis, not Sublis at Chester.

I believe Tuan (Chester) came from Antwerp not Apenheul.

Yes you are correct fro both of them, I have always Subis Sublis as I that's the way I thought it was pronounced and said, I recently realised looking at 2011 Studbook that it's Subis. and yes Tuan did come from Antwerp I put Apenheul because I miss read it. I will post an updated version once Lingga, Joly & Kai move home.
