This is from last month, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't posted on here. Apologies if the map is actually much older and has been seen before. It was new to me anyway and made it much clearer how the zoning will work.

Correct, onyl 2.1 gerenuk left in europe.

Two imports, the first in 2013 of 2,2 .One female died in 2014 highpregnant.Second import in 2015 of 1.3.

Only one birth of a male fawn in Feb.2015-he died in Sept.2015, followed by "Jack"and "Bonnie in October,"Amelia"in November and in January 2016"Cocoa". The surving female is"Priscilla", 18months old.

They will try now to rebuild a Breeding group out of 2.1-but without more females from the States, the chances are low.
 
thanks for that. A great shame. Does the article say (or does someone know) the causes of death, or at least if the deaths were from related causes?
 
The article says to that:

"The pathological changes varied among the deceased Gerenuks of pneumonia on indigestion, liver damage and kidney damage," said zoo and zoo director Andreas Knieriem. From Priscilla Blood samples were regularly taken, you hope for a result of this long-term study. A spokeswoman added that they have also the drinking water of the animals, the food and the soil analyzed. So far without success.

Nevertheless, I hope, the Us-Zoos do not will send again gerenuks to middle-european zoos. It is not okay to keep gerenuks for six months a year in the barn without any acccess to outdoor exhibits, if it is too cold for that. If kept in europe, than defenitely only in southern europe, where the species can be kept outdoors yearround and feed with fresh leafs also yearround.Could be better for the welfare and husbandry of these sensitive gazelles. A shame, five gerenuks had to die unnecessarily.
 
Pictures of some births in the Mishmi takin herd at the Tierpark, i was wondering, the white patches on the forehead of the young, is that a sign of inbreeding in the herd?

On April 3 a Diana monkey was born at the Tierpark but the mother didn't take care for it so it now has to be hand-raised.
