Hello everyone! Panda here (or Andrew since that's my real name).

I've seen people do this for other facilities and I thought why not do one for the National Zoo? So, that's exactly what i'm doing! Just a warning. I will only include ones that i'm confident I can complete, so the Bird house and Reptiles will not be included. But if anyone does believe they can complete those two then let me know. Also. Please let me know if I missed anything.

& = I don't know the exact species.

^ = Not 100% the zoo still has this species or if they've gone on exhibit yet.

Thank you for taking a look and have a good day!

Also please let me know if I missed any species or if you can do the Bird House and Reptiles because I can't! Thank you in advance.

Also sorry for any grammar mistakes.

Red-bellied titi are on exhibit. Lesser hedgehog tenrec are on exhibit but greater are not. Both lemurs you list as ^ are on exhibit. You missed some of the amphibians, coral, invertebrates, and fish in the exit to Amazonia. I'll do the reptile and bird house for you tomorrow. Great list!

You saw the Black and white and Red Fronted Lemurs? Well nice to know the zoo still has them.

Also. I got confused because the zoos website list both Greater and Lesser Hedgedog Tenrecs and its been a while since i've gone so I didn't which they had.

I really only know a lot about mammals. Which is why I remember them the best.

Also a thank you in advance for doing the bird and reptiles!

On second thought not entirely sure about red fronted, but definitely saw bw ruffed. If greater hedgehog tenrec was there, it wasn't signed, and in fact the sign said "small hedgehog tenrec" which I assume to be lesser. I'll do those two in a few minutes (well, start doing. It may take a while). Also, my lists won't be 100% accurate, I didn't take pictures of the signs. If I take a really long time to post, assume that I got to Baltimore and am at the aquarium so I'm distracted. :)

The "smal hedgehog tenrec" is a lesser tenrec. They also still have the red fronted lemurs. They have 5 ring tail, 2 black and white, 2 red fronted and 3 or 4 red ruffed.

Tortoises (didn't say how many, but radiated, Galapagos, and Aldabra I believe)

They have impressed, radiated, aldabra and spider. Also they have more than two spider tortoise. I think the babies are the ones on display and the parents have an exhibit that's just in the wall like all the others.

Jewels of Appalachia Exhibit and Lab:

Salamanders (four species, not signed well)

Green, Red, Eastern Red Backed and Long Tailed salamanders are the species on display.

They do have signage that tells you the species. Its a video screen that you can press an arrow and it will show the species.

All of those species go outside? I saw them all inside but didn't expect them outside. I didn't pay much attention to the salamanders of Appalachia- this will be my home zoo if everything goes as expected so I'd get to see them again. There were far too many children in that building and I wanted to steamroll all of them- or at least the screaming ones. As for spider tortoises, they are on display in two places. Babies are on display in the first hallway of the building. Adults are in the same "greenhouse" as radiated tortoises but are on an elevated section of their own. Will do the rest of Amazonia after I sort out a few things from today's trips.

If you mean the Tortoise well no the only ones that can go outside are the ones in the big enclosure.

If you mean the Lemurs well all but the Red Ruffed which live exclusively at the Small Mammal House.

Sorry for not being clear, I meant the tortoises. I figured that it was just the generic Galapagos/Aldabra but didn't want to give incorrect info.

Exit of Amazonia:

Amphibians-

African Clawed Frog

Western Tiger Caecilian

Caecilian&

Dyeing Poison Frog

Blue Poison Frog

Yellow-Banded Poison Frog

Oriental Fire-Bellied Toad

Gray Treefrog

Fowler's Toad

Newt&

Frog Lab-

Panamanian Golden Frog (many exhibits)

Coral Lab

Warty Frog Fish

Orange Cup-Anemone

Peacock Mantis Shrimp

Tube Anemone

Occelaris Clownfish

Zoanthids

Thin Birdsnest Coral

Cauliflower Coral

Pulsing Xenia

Plate Coral

Gorgonian

Hammer Coral

Staghorn Coral

Capricornis

Smooth Cauliflower Coral

Whisker Coral

Porcelain Crab

Hermit Crab

Giant Clam

Brittle Star

Fire Shrimp

Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp

Also one more species of coral. I think that's all- between me and panda, I think we have it all covered.

Ok I went again today (why not? It's free and I had time) so I took photos of the signs in the reptile house. I think there's a few still missing from the bird house but I added some species there as well.

is Smithsonian Zoo the only zoo to exhibit Coppery Titi? ive never seen signs for this species at any other zoo that ive been to. thanks

There is one left, signed as coppery titi in the Small Mammal House. It's about 30 years old, according to a volunteer I spoke with. I believe it's the only one in the US.

Jayjds2 said this.

Also a quick correction. Once again according to Jayjds2 the zoo has white eared titi in the Amazonia and not red bellied titi.

Ok thanks to much googling, I found out that Santa Ana Zoo has "Red Titi." Not sure how many, but they said they received it(them) in 2009.

Also, you left out Von der Decken's Hornbill and Burrowing Owl in the Small Mammal House.

I was gonna add them but its not letting me edit the post.

Also I want to apologize for putting "Ruffles" instead of "Rüppell's " for the vulture.

the list is almost complete:) In the Bird House there are (as of today) also labels for Silver-beaked Tanager, Sun Bittern, Blue-winged Teal, and White-cheek Pintail, though today I only saw the last two species. Also the Macaw is not Scarlet, but Green-winged. Outside the Bird House you missed Seriema, Scarlet Ibis, and Roseate Spoonbill, and also Redhead Ducks with the Flamingos. Also the Big Flight Cage only has very few species left: Northern Cardinal, Gray Catbird, Hooded Merganser, Wood Duck, and American Black Duck
