The foster parenting it’s a technique often used in captive breeding. Sometimes we have a female with good genetics but she can’t rear the chicks. To avoid hand rearing some times we put the egg under another female of the same species, this generally works well. But this year we went further using a mainland bird of paradise female that was incubating infertile eggs to incubate one egg of Red Bird of Paradise from a female that had many problems raising her previous chicks. The female accepted the egg and today we have a red bird fledging and being reared by a female of another species
