Northeastern Wisconsin Zoo & Adventure Park What's New at the N.E.W Zoo?

Updates for the past few months:
  • Construction has begun on the Adventure park, & the climbing wall looks to be complete from pictures.
  • The zoo welcomed a baby snow macaque 7 months ago who has been hand raise by one of their keepers who has previous experience hand raising them.
  • The zoo has welcomed a new red panda from the Houston Zoo in exchange for their female Leafa.
  • The prenguins have started laying eggs this past month.
  • The zoo had kookaburra, african penguin, and trumpeter swan chicks earlier this year.
  • The zoo received a new male red wolf named Tamska at the beginning of the year, to breed with their femal Laurel.
  • The zoo has opened the new Education and Conservation Center

I always think its shame when zoos have to go down the non-animal attraction route...the excuse is of course"the kids will love it",and this much will be true...but isn't America just full of stuff like this - its almost like saying "animals are not interesting and exciting enough".

The animals are exciting, that's why children want to go to the zoo. But children also need multiple outlets to express their excitement. Zoos are just looking to capitalize on this.

This will be a great money maker for the zoo which is more important for this zoo than many others. The N.E.W. Zoo is one of only 7 zoos that recieves no money from taxes that is accredited by the AZA. By doing this they are helping to build a better protective bubble of their finances. This is very important when you consider what happened to zoos such as Jackson and Zoo Montana when their finances were at weak points, and I know Jackson recieved money from the government!

Great news, guys!

I was hired by the NEW Zoo as an intern, and have been working there for about a month now! :D So far, I have been having a fantastic experience!

Photos and comments of a visit prior to beginning the internship have been posted in the gallery.

Congratulations on getting an opportunity to work at the zoo! I visited in 2014 and was hugely impressed with the North American zone, including the large otter and moose exhibits.

Congratulations!

I still have to make my way up here. As snowleopard said above me, based off the pictures from the gallery here, the North American section looks very nice.
