That's true to an extent, though the survivors are proving they can live and breed in that climate, and photos show they seem to look healthy enough. I plan to visit there in September so I may find out more at first hand.

Nor do I know exactly what killed all the other females- but they seemed to die off very close together. Was it poisoning. e.g. ragwort?

Not OpelZoo but once again, the HWP have had another yet male calf born this year. Their announcement says they have a herd of six- but not quite clear if that is before or after this calf was born. Giving them either 4.2 or 5.1 perhaps?

Opel Zoo provided this year already European wildcats for re-introduction.
Now they also provided 5 European minks for a re-introduction project :).
 
Something you might have missed out on mentioning.

For the first time the Opel Zoo has also send a captive-bred marbled teal duckling to a release project on Mallorca (see the bottom of the German language feature), which also is a vulnerable and threatened species in Europe!!!
 
The Opel Zoo plans to start construction of three new Asia exhibits next year. Instead of the current enclosure for Phillipine spotted deer an exhibit for indian rhinos and black buck is to be created, next door two enclosures for Malayan tapirs mixed with Phillipine spotted deer and an enclosure for Siamangs and Small clawed otters. The project will cost 12 million euros and will be opened in 2022 -if everything works out.

A pair of Babirusa from Chester is on exhibit since a couple of months.
 
The former Brown hyena enclosures are now occupied by a pair of Striped hyena (from France & Spain), when the male Brown hyena died (originally from Berlin), the female was sent to Prague.

6 Cheetah were also born recently.

Elephant cows Kariba and Lilak from Tierpark Berlin moved to Kronberg this morning. Interestingly, the zoo planned to bring them already in March, but due to coronavirus it was postponed. They also planned to move Aruba and Zimba elsewhere after Lilak and Kariba will come, but after Aruba's death it was canceled and Zimba would remain in Kronberg.
 
Well done ! Brillant news. New breeding pair this year in Kronberg and Cerza. A great year except the lost of the two animals in Nuremberg. I hope other births will come from the other parks in the near future.
 
Visited this zoo recently and liked the lay-out. It's well kept and most exhibits looks fitting for the species kept. It's quite hilly, so not ideal for disabled people. Dogs allowed at the zoo, and carrots and pellets for sale to feed the animals. Some nice species and lots to do for kids, so an interesting zoo for a broad group of visitors.
