There is a clutch of fertile gahrial eggs in Zoo Protivín! Already! The pair is there since 29th October, looks they get used to theit new environment well. 15 eggs in the clutch, sadly the male managed to damage some so "only" 7 more or less undamaged eggs are incubating. Fingers crossed!

Good news about the gharial eggs. When I visited the zoo in 2009, I was pleased to see signs pointing to the gharials. It made a nice change from the usual emphasis on ABC animals. It was the first time I'd seen gharials since 1991. The zoo looks good after being renovated following the floods.
 
This is not in Praha, this is a private Crocozoo in small southern bohemian town of Protivín (and off show facilities in farm in Chvalšiny nerby, just far enough to meet veterinary requirements) - Protivin Crocodile Zoo, Crocodile Farm Chval?iny, Zoological Museum Director is an enthusiast currently keeping all crocodile species except the Orinoco crocodile (among other animals mainly reptiles) and reproducing many. No floods there:)

The Prague 3.3 (one female died) is still to young to reproduce. In Protivín they have a pair and 5 1.5m long youngsters to grow up. They arrived from Madras Crocodile Bank after all paperwork done half a year ago.
 
Docend24..did the gharial eggs hatch?both St Augustine and Fort Worth in the U.S.had eggs last year but they did not hatch.As far as i know Gharials have never reproduced outside of India.

I heard no news, Tim. If I am not mistaken gharial eggs should hatch after around 90 days so unless something happens we could expect them to hatch at the end of June - eggs were layed at 27/28th March night. Fingers crossed.

Be a major breakthrough if they do ... :D
 
No threat yet for this Crocodile Zoo !
To start it directly with some exiting news :
7 Philippine crocodiles have hatched on July 23, only 8 days after the Zoo Cologne had the European First Breeding !
 
A leucistic female - 36 years old - has produced a large cluch of at least 16 eggs ( thats what I counted at least on several photos from the zoo ). Eggs are now in the incubator and hopes are high that at least some young will hatch :).
