Chester Zoo Chester Zoo 2016 #2

I'd love to see CZ open until early evening, could even do a reduced ticket rate for after 5pm entry. Has CZ ever done a twilight event, I recollect elephant bbqs but can't remember any details.
There were a couple of 'Lazy Summer Evening' events a few years ago. They were so contentious in the zoo that they were only announced at the last minute and as a result, and not helped by inclement weather, weren't well-attended. As a result, and because of the logistics, they've not happened since.

Here's a video: https://vimeo.com/13816606

Let's also not forget that some zoo staff start at 7am, so whilst there was a time when the zoo only officially closed "at dusk", to do so today would require two separate shifts.

It would however, be lovely if the zoo closed at 7pm or 7:30pm in midsummer. It does seem galling on a beautiful evening to have to leave at 5pm, especially as the children go home and the animals are more relaxed.

makes the shortfall even more of an issue when it comes to larger collections such as Chester.

I thought it ridiculous on my recent visit in May that they 'close' at 5.p.m. after which people were being ushered out as fast as possible. They are continually making the Zoo larger and larger (Islands adds at least another hour to see it all) and with such a huge collection it simply doesn't allow time to see everything.

Yet again marketing has failed to do the research.

Prior to this first ever breeding at the zoo, 9 male, 9 female, and 8 unsexed Scottish wild cats were born at Chester zoo.

I think its disgraceful that this sort of misinformation is allowed to happen without someone fact-checking what they put out on these announcements. Bristol, to name another, have a similar problem.:(

That's still better than Bristol, of course, who start ushering people out as fast as possible an hour *prior* to the closing time - to the point of blocking paths with rope barriers and sending troops of keepers to mop up any stragglers, in order that long before the zoo has closed, the only area open to the public is the flamingo aviary and drill exhibit immediately in front of the giftshop and exit :p

If you want extra time try going to Chessington on a winter Zoo Day. It closes at 3pm, but I’ve been at the gorillas (which is near the entrance/exit) until 3.30 or later before being gently ushered out.

I was at Dudley nearly 30 minutes after closing time and didn't see any keepers ushering people out they were just getting on with putting the animals away for the night.

I do agree that Chester is now very close to a 2 day visit in that respect don't you think the zoo should offer a free return using the same ticket within a 2 month period like West Midlands Safari Park (no limit on return as long as it's the same year)

On my last visit I was talking to a keeper for a good hour or so at the end of the day they eventually realised that it was 30mins past closing to which I said it was a shame as I hadn't seen the chimps yet. They proceded to not only walk with me to the chimps but to have another good 10 mins talking about them.

Tiger, Jaya was moved to Manor House Wildlife Park yesterday - leaving 0.2 (his mum and sister) at Chester

3pm? ! ?

Some of us have only just got up then!

Other young birds are royal starling, golden heart dove, snowy-crowned robin chat, red-breasted goose and waldrapp ibis.

roan antelope and western sitatunga have very young calves.

The rock hyrax have young too. There are also now Malagasy Giant Jumping Rats in the first aye-aye enclosure, and there seems to be a 3rd, fairly young, orangutan infant in Islands? Did I miss that announcement?

Annoys me seeing so many people posting the story on their facebook, demanding a response. If they bothered reading the story they are posting, they'd see Chester Zoo have taken action.

When you completed indonesia? I read that in September 2016, work will begin to build the tapir habitat and Malay bear.
