Pairi Daiza Pairi Daiza News 2016

"Manufactoring"Giant pandas by A.I isnt's something special and has nothing to do with"Breeding". The only Zoo in europe who has really bred Giant pandas was Vienna Zoo.

Nothing about AI can be defined as manufacture, and I imagine the zoo's visitor numbers over the next couple of years will be something rather special.

Don't try telling that to the people at Edinburgh :p

Does anyone know anything about which gorillas are intended to join Pairi Daiza? Last I heard it was Sango and Lomako (both males) from La Vallee des Singes, and Shomari and Dayo from Artis (also both male)? Any others or is that it?

Any pictures of the gorilla exhibit?

Four is a fairly typical number to form a bachelor group with- unless they decide to add a fully grown silverback as 'schoolmaster' but I can't think of one that needs a home like that at present.

Thx V, would love to see some pictures of the enclosure??

More sad elephant news today.

In Friendship, we share everything, the moments of great joy as those of sadness and disappointment. So it is with emotion that we must announce that the elephant of may is no more. He was born on Sunday 31 July at around 6 in the morning, without any force and presented a strong respiratory failure. May understood very well that her baby wasn't in shape. She hasn't been pushed around and left the room for teams. Despite the strenuous efforts of the healers and the vet, the baby has never been in ability to stand, or feed themselves, nor breathe properly and went out near his mommy. An Autopsy is underway. May, which has already had a son born in good health, receives, at this moment, the best care and the affection of his group of éléphantes. This day was very stressful for her and for his handlers who took great care of her throughout her pregnancy...

Lifted from their PB page.

Male Gorilla Wazungu from Schmiding has now been transferred here. At 14 he is presumably being added to the new male group as a more senior male. Are they still having two more from La Vallee de Singes, or just the three they have now?

I think they'll still get Sango and Lomako from LVdS, as between four and six is the most common size for a gorilla bachelor group, and it would be a better age range (birth years would be 2002, 2004 x2, 2007 and 2008)

This looks like the usual rush with a new exhibit, the animals to fill it only arrived a few days ago- one of them(Wuzungu- or should he be called Dracula...?)) literally only the other day- and with little or no time to settle in before going on exhibit. It is obviously only just finished, the 'mountain' looks very bare and open- which the Gorillas will hate- and needs some time to tone down a bit and mature with more vegetation too. But on the plus side, it is a new holder for several male Gorillas.

Another exciting new species - yesterday (10th August) the park received a group of 0.0.4 Olive Ridley Sea Turtles from a collection in the Maldives.

These are the only ones in Europe. The individuals were sent to Belgium after being deemed none releasable due to injuries. Two of them will eventually move onto AquaZoo Friesland whilst the remaining pair stay at Pairi Diaza
