So I've got a big herp update to post.

To start with, the most recent update from a school trip to Kampinos National Park today:

22) Slow Worm

I was very excited to see this, though unfortunately there was much screaming and yelling at the 'poisonous snake' from other students on the trip. Sigh. I have posted a few pictures in the Poland - Wildlife Gallery

And I also have a bunch of herps that I have finally identified from my trip to Kenya in Febuary. See the Kenya - Wildlife Gallery for some more details on the identification process.

The first three species are amphibians, the rest are reptiles.

23) Hyperolius glandicolor ferniquei
24) Sclerophrys xeros
25) Ptychadena anchietae
26) Hemidactylus mabouia
27) Pelomedusa subrufa
28) Trachylepis varia
29) Lygodactylus manni
30) Agama mwanzae

I also want to note that the snake I counted from Nairobi National Park that was identified by my safari guide as a Green Mamba was actually Battersby's Green Snake, Philothamnus battersbyi. I can't be bothered looking through for the actual post, and this doesn't affect the total at all or the number of lifers, but I felt it was worth mentioning.

well it's the first of the month in NZ, so here are the latest totals (and LaughingDove's post above moves him to the top of the herptile ranks). There's obviously a lot of people who aren't up to date on their posts though.

I've been in Auckland for the weekend. I did have some wildlifey plans but they sort of fell apart because I ended up somewhat under the weather. Didn't even go to the zoo in the end. However Monday was spent wader-watching at the Mangere ponds. A friend of mine was flying into Auckland in the morning and I was flying out in the evening, and the ponds are quite near the airport so it made a good combination. The tides weren't good, and most of the birds seen were ones seen earlier in the year, but there were a few additons.

Monday I am traveling to Kenya again and I will spend 2.5 weeks there and the rest of the year will be spent in Tanzania (Amani, Pemba & Gombe).

My friend Mr. Andy wanted to go birding with me somewhere, so we went to Borneo. Because he has adult responsibilities, like a wife and a baby and a job, it could only be a short trip - just ten days or so - and we chose places I had been before so I knew my way around, but to which he hadn't so there would be lots of new birds and mammals for him to see. The flights from New Zealand come in to Kuala Lumpur, so we decided to start off at the nearby hill station of Bukit Fraser where we would spend two days looking for siamang before continuing on to Sabah. In Sabah we will be visiting Sepilok (which is where we are right now) and then Mt. Kinabalu because he has always wanted to go there. This was my fourth time at Bukit Fraser, my third at Sepilok, and will be my fourth at Mt. Kinabalu. Consequently I am expecting lifer birds to be few and far between. Hopefully there will be some nice mammal lifers to make up for that.
In the meantime, here are the birds and mammals seen at Bukit Fraser.
