In its hey day this island held over 150 Rhesus Macaques!What most visitors don't know is that most of these primates were held in for lack of a better word dungeons located beneath the island for the duration of many long and brutal winters.Learning this has certainly changed my perspective on whether the zoo needs to preserve this iconic exhibit.There is talk that its going to be part of a Black Rhino expansion project at some point down the line.
