Boras Zoo Savanna

Well no, not if we are referring about the old (1980?) map that rillekolmard recently posted. Then the cheetah lived in fairly small enclosure just beside the African savanna. And the rhinos lived with the elephants on the savanna: see for instance this old photo of mine:

I love this mixed exhibit and would love to see it one day. Reminds me of Emmen's one. I do not like many of today's zoo savannahs though.

What's amazing with this exbith is that it exists since 1962, And it has always been high standard! They have had quite a lot of animals together here, and it has worked well. Would be great if several zoos copied the two concepts, Cheetha+Rhino and this savanna with Elephant+Giraffe+ Anilopes+Birds and more together ....

Now this is quite interesting, in a way!

I wrote an e-mail to the zoo yesterday asking if elephants and rhinos were still kept together on the savanna and, if not, when this practise was terminated. I received a promt and kind answer today, but I can tell with 100% certainty that it was wrong. The answer went "We have not kept elephants and rhinos together for many years (not since the 1960s, if I am not mistaken). ....there were probably some scuffles between the species and a decision was taken that it was not worth the risk anymore."

I am, however, and for various reasons, absolutely certain that the (latest) pictures I have uploaded with eles and rhinos together were taken in the 1970s and probably around 1974/1975.

but anyway, this means that we can conclude that the practise most probably was abandoned some time in the second half of the 1970s.

Yes, exactly! I have received similar vague answers from other zoos whwn e-mailing them.
