Chimp Enclosure - Dudley 2006

At present the enclosure looks more or less the same has as been said on other threads this land was up for sale but as since been with drawn and a major rethink is underway as the zoo hopes to use the very large flat piece of land to the rear of this enclosure for future enclosures.
Just to make a quick note on the Polar Bear Tecton building complex this is a very large area and if extended to the very back would in fact be larger then the present Chimpanzee enclosure on both sides it would also be better equiped to hold breeding Chimpanzees as the enclosure they are in now is not

On some of the more recent photos it looks like theyv'e added a lot more climbing frames to me. if they strengthened the fence it would be fine for males (I presume this would be cheaper than a move?)

This image is only part of the enclosure as you can see just to the left of the main climbing frame thier is the foot of another structure and closer to monkey tails (to the right) thier is another climbing structure.
I heard it would be cheaper to reinforce the fence but with them hoping to use the land the other side of the fence then this would be a waste of very tight funding

Im sorry adrian - but looking at the date at which this was taken - 2006, when the upgrade shown by a photo taken by myself in 2009 during construction. Also the current plan unless it has changed recently is to upgrade the fencing to suit male chimps.

I was told recently that they had reignited the plans for the chimpanzees and orangutans to move to the tecton triple pit complex

Seems they really can't make up their minds. Having just done up the interior of the old Ape/Orangutan House, now they might still be moved?

At least they could probably have a proper Chimpanzee group if they moved.

Pertintax - one thing you get used to as a dudley regular is that they never keep their minds made up! :D:D Its a guessing game at the moment!

That's why I stopped believing the statements about 'future developments' on their website years ago.;)

I guess they'd better make their minds up over this for sure before they start bothering to upgrade the outdoor Orangutan enclosures though. It could be a terrible waste of time if they upgrade the wrong enclosure!

I can see how the outdoor carnivore pits could be adapted for the Chimps/Orangutans but they would need better indoor facilities than are there at present.

"Future Zoo Development" statements are something I seldom trust. They may as well be politicians´empty promises. You may as well try to obtain the secret formula for Coca Cola, the truth about Roswell or the inside track on the Freemasons as discover zoo project blueprints. In my professional life I have seen little sensitive information as jealously guarded as what you will find in the zoo world.Businesses and companies are just about money when it comes down to it, but we all know that the zoo world is more competitive than any other, including legendary areas for sensitivity such as politics, religion and Formula 1 design.A shoal of Red Herrings. This is why I trust no Zoo "development" until it actually exists in visitable form.If anybody has a different opinion, I would be delighted to hear of it if supported by evidence and examples.
