Close-up Profile of a Blue Jay

April 21st, 2012
Well, while the Blue Jay probably didn't make it, I have a story about a deer. I looked out my window to see a group of deer. One had a very obvious injury and walked with a big limp. Most likely hit by a car. I thought she probably wouldn't live long and felt bad. A couple of weeks later, I saw some more deer out the window. To my shock and happiness, the deer with the limp was there as well, doing fine, and with a fawn!:) It gave me some hope that in our world where so many things lie ahead and challenge us, and get us down, that some people (and animals!) will keep on going.

Speaking about animal deaths I hate when Nature shows show animals dieing because you feel bad about the prey but feel good about the preditor not starving. Also the sadest thing that I have seen was a show on Animal Planet it showed a lion getting attack by a hippo and the hippo bit off the lion's jaw the the lion tried to drink some water but could not, I saw that a year ago and the image of the jaw less lion trying to drink water is still in my head.

How near the house was it? It acted much like a bird does when it is "stunned" from flying into a window.

I had a sickly cowbird hanging around my yard once. Cooper's hawk took care of that.

@ Ituri- I'd say it was maybe... 20 to 25 feet from my porch. Although, there is a small "garage" in my backyard, maybe it flew into one of those windows?
