Scanned photo from my visit in July 2002.

Magnificent Saiga Antelopes. The last one died in 2009 and thereby Europe outside of Russia had no more.
Just one-and its outposts/breeding facility.

@Baldur: Sorry, will have to keep you in suspense-till next Thursday/Friday...;)

Update (as promised): Tallinn might(!) get saigas in the future; but for certain, they're going to get Marco Polo sheep...

Oh well, my Cologne experience will have to suffice for a few more years then. I guess the MP sheep won't be coming in the next month, will they? For I have a flight at the end of the month...

As Ive never seen a marco polo sheep I looked for one on Google images, all I found was dead ones with some di^^head smiling over what they had killed, so it will be nice to see a live one.

you're right, most of the photos found are either hunters with their trophy kills, or museum displays. However there's a nice photo of a flock here: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/06/science/06conv.html
