Great photo.

This is the most beautiful squirrel that I have ever seen, and there are several beautiful squirrels (Prevost's, Western grey).

How are the red squirrels doing in England? Are they hanging on?

Lovely photo, Adrian.

@David:- not very well, I fear. There's been another outbreak of squirrelpox in Merseyside. RSST News-Red Squirrel Survival Trust.

Personally, I don't hold out too much hope for this animal in the UK away from rigorously maintained pinewood reserves, UNLESS there is a big sustained cull of greys.

Beautiful picture!

You should definitively send this picture to some wildlife magazine or wildlife photography competition.

@Stefka - how easy is it to see reds in the Republic? It seems like the species is in trouble in the East of Ireland these days..:(

I can´t speak for the rest of Ireland, but Howth peninsula is the last stronghold of Red Squirrels in Dublin. (I´ve never seen one though.) Wicklow Mountains would be probably the closest area with some Red Squirrel population. But they are in trouble, the pox virus got here as well :-(

So not very easy..
