Any increase on 1.3 in this group? The UK population of this species seems not to be increasing very fast, with Chester now reduced to only a couple(?) and the Newquay and West Mids breeding groups very small also.

Yes, it does seem that way- yet they were doing well at one stage- Chester had about nine. I think there is also a tendency to transfer fawns born here back to other groups in Europe so the UK breeding groups do not become any more consolidated.
Hopefully we won't lose this amazing species from the UK. However will the current holders of this species maybe get new stock in from Europe when their gets old or dies? Or is it more likely to be replaced by another species?
On the plus though, Chester did manage to import a new male in 2011 (from outside the UK) but as you say, the females have dropped from two to one in recent months... Hopefully studbook will get to work in the future and sort this out
