The exhibit consists of two enclosures. Roughly two thirds is for the two females, whilst the other third is for the male. In my opinion, this is too small for a new Lynx enclosure, expecially the male's section. October 2009.

I'm surprised that the lynx is even visible through all of that ugly steel wire, and the enclosures are not impressive. There appears to be a single tree that the lynx cannot climb, a handful of rocks, and then a tiny space for a magnificent species of cat. Ugh. It reminds me of the lynx cage at my local Greater Vancouver Zoo, which is much larger but the viewing possibilities are just as horrible.
There are only two lynx!!! One male, and one female. And they have access to both sides of the enclosure. Also, this picture is taken from a really stupid angle which doesn't do the enclosure justice. The mesh isn't the greatest but the keepers told me that they are planning on replacing it eventually with glass panels and walled off areas to give them privacy and good viewing for public. At the moment the zoo does not have the funds to be able to complete this renovation but it is on the cards at some point!

I can assure you there were three lynx as I saw three! I assumed that the animals were separated as there were always two in the larger enclosure and one in the smaller enclosure which appeared to be larger, I may well be wrong on this though. I agree, this picture is taken at a bad angle which makes the exhibit seem smaller than it actually is, however, I still do not see it as even near adequate in size for a new exhibit.
I work at the park and can tell you now there are only two lynx. One male, Lesley, and one female, Kiruna. Kiruna has to take medication once a day via a chick and if she does not eat it on the morning round then the two have to be separated unitl she does to prevent Lesley from eating it. Kiruna has the smaller compartment and Lesley has the bigger. As soon as she has eaten her medication they both access to all parts of the enclosure.
As tigger said we do eventually have plans to renovate the viewing to this enclosure.

Have the zoo always had just two, or could a third have left recently as I'm sure that I saw three and remember there was once another female called Finn.
I find this enclosure quite good it is a vast improvement on the Former Lynx Enclosure were Finn was held, Finn died in about 2007/8?.It just needs time for the renovations to be complete in the mean time i find it more than satisfactory.
And Good luck to Dartmoor in the future - Its a great little park has some great attributes:
Its in a Great Area with fantastic views.
Great Parkland with plenty of mature trees etc.
And its keeping the Species that it does great with - Lynx, bears,Tigers,Wolves,Deer - All of the Species that do well in this sort of setting.
I just hope they dont hope to out-do themselves as its great they way it is if it keeps going the right path - Dartmoor has a hell of alot to recover from and it is doing very well lets just remember a few years ago from now plans were going to demolish the zoo and turn it into an old-peoples home. The Zoo has kept going and thats one of the most important bits.
