Orangs outdoor area

An improvement, but why they can't just fill in the moat and fence it off I have no clue.

Too costly/big an endeavour?

Some people have also said this house has a preservation order on it too-but it was only constructed in the 1960's so I'm not sure that it has.

Filling in the moat would give them a lot more space. Large glass viewing windows could be installed- but that's all major expense, whereas what they have done is largely cosmetic- though its a big improvement.

On the Zoo investment plan, it mentions new interactive signage which I think is unnecessary for a zoo like Dudley and I imagine it will not be cheap.

For me the Orang's wellbeing holds a higher priority.

The building was modified when the two 'pods' to the right were merged many years ago and the wall dividing them was cut away.

From what I've seen of orangutans, they're a dab hand at demolition. Surreptitiously provide them with a few sharp rocks and they could do what people may not be allowed to do ;) Alternatively, maybe it will contract concrete cancer. The alterations are an improvement however.

You can still see what this looked like before the improvements if you go onto Google Street View.

I'm pretty sure this moat is not protected, you may be confusing it with the sealion pool moat area.
