Orangs outdoor area

An improvement, but why they can't just fill in the moat and fence it off I have no clue.
There is a list of all the listed buildings in the borough on the Dudley MBC website. Nothing in this photo is listed. I hope the zoo can afford to demolish it before anyone has the stupid idea that this structure has any merit at all.

It really is frightening that anyone could ever have thought that this structure was an acceptable way of keeping Great Apes - it once kept gorillas and chimps there as well.

What's even worse is that Chessington copied it BUT ON A SMALLER SCALE!!!:eek:

Thanks Gentle Lemur, there always seems to be confusion over this'enclosure'
It wasn't a tecton, and the 'moat' is very much manmade to go with when it was built (1960's at a guess), so apart from the fact that the zoo has little money to change it there is no reason why it cant be removed in time.

Well in that case I suggest you tell the senior mangement as they seem to think its listed!

Just to add to this debate. I remember this house when it was almost brand new and the moat was part of the whole construction, so its the same age as the building and part of it. So I see no reason why it should be listed and GL's research seems to confirm that. I think the Dudley management(or whoever) may be confused about their own situation here.

They may have ben confused with the sealion moat, which is in the same area and is most certainly on the list.

Absolutely- the sealion moat is part of the original castle moat afaik so definately on the list. But the Apehouse is one Dudley white elephant they could get rid of entirely if they had the wherewithal to do so and replace it (they haven't).
