Not sure what's happening here. Is that the back of the old Lion enclosure or new rockwork? Will the existing(terraced) part of the enclosure which I can see here be left as it is?
As far as I can tell from looking in-person, the back of the old lion enclosure has been coated in new rockwork. Looking at the design images, the moat will remain but will look much less like a terrace, instead being incorporated into a landscape.
The Land of the Lions area in the zoo is now starting to really look like the design images, at least the areas visible from the exclusion barriers. The Langur enclosure and surrounding walkway look to be near completion, the circular area with the flags is coming on, as is the 'railway station' area of the theme-ing (picture here:http://www.zoochat.com/43/land-lions-progress-04-10-2015-a-426677/); this part is right up by the side of BUGS, which shows just how much more space the lions will be getting compared to their old enclosure on the Terraces. Am a little surprised at just how much of the old Terrace buildings has been re-used for the new development, the old Serval house is definitely still there, just with a new lick of paint.

Thanks. I hadn't realised it isn't an entirely new build. The old Lion enclosure will still be there, though having been 'masked' by fresh rockwork etc. and probably landscaped a bit. I wish they would get rid of the water moat too but it looks like it will still be there. Additional space will be added (a second enclosure?) it seems behind the existing enclosure.
It seems to be following the other larger scale recent developments at ZSL in that existing buildings/areas are being modified as part of the new display each time.
What a "great" new exhibit. A lion enclosure stuffed with bicycles and barrels/bins. All surrounded with unnecessary ethno elements. What a waste of space and money!!!!!
And unfortunately another evidence that London Zoo is only a shadow of its own.
(I won't write in such harsh words if London had enough space, big ABC-animals and money)

From the other photos, it looks like a very claustrophobic build, with it being sandwiched inbetween BUGS and the old penguin pool!
I really hope they retain, or incorporate, the original "Lion(s) House" entrance stone from the pre-Terraces lion house into this build. It really would be a shame if this were to disappear.
The area in the foreground I believe is the site of the new vulture aviary. The red structure in the distance could be the beginnings of the langur "Fort."
I'm actually beginning to wonder if the Lions will have any more space than in the existing/previous enclosure or if it is simply going to be reinvented with landscaping etc. Will there be a second enclosure(if so where?) or just the one? Very confused now

Unless I'm looking at the plans wrong, they'll also get the old tiger enclosure. The langurs have the old serval/primate area, vultures have the aviaries.
The promo gibberish states a pride will be in residence. Make of that what you will!

Thanks for the outline. So they'll get two revamped/landscaped enclosures, not just one. Much clearer now.
Re 'Pride'- it could be anything from 1.2 Lions upwards though somewhere I heard talk of more than that (up to 12? ). The usual rule of thumb in these cases is it turns out to be a smaller number than anticipated.
