The photo perhaps only shows half of the giraffe house interior, but it is still a small and sterile building. I think that it was built in 1941, and the floor does indeed slant a little. I'm sure that eventually the giraffes will have a new home to reside in, but who knows when that will occur?
Does anybody know if a new giraffe house is being contemplated? I'm pretty sure that the current house is still their permanent home for the foreseeable future, although would certainly be happy to hear otherwise. A new giraffe exhibit at the country's greatest zoo would be quite awesome, although the current outdoor exhibit is quite nice.
- I believe there are 4 with 2 on each side. This house is very small for the amount of giraffes but the zoo puts them outside as much as possible. They can be found outside from about March to October. The house is from the 80's but I do not see any replacement coming in the near future.
There were 8 giraffes in this building when I visited in February. There's also a male that I think was off-exhibit then but he's in here on-show the entire summer while the females enjoy the outdoor enclosure. At least now it seems they have a sand floor.

- Many times i have visited during the summer the male is not in here as there is an outdoor off exhibit yard for him just behind the house. You can view it from google earth. But also when there is not a young calf he will be mixed with the herd.
