On June 29 the zoo opened ts largest exhibit ever, Africa. Africa will will be an 8 acre complex featuring the wild beauties of the African Savannah.
2008: Phase 1: Giraffe Ridge - Masai Giraffes
2010: Phase 2: Cheetah Encounter + Greater Flamingo
2013: Phase 3: Lions + Cheetahs
2014: Phase 4: Grevy\'s Zebras/Giant Elands/Gazelles/Ostriches/Crowned Cranes/Marabou Stork + Vulutures
2015: Phase 5: African Wild Dogs + Red River Hogs + Nile Crocodiles + Hippopotamuses

Oh I remember that. I completely forgot that I got to see one from an inch away at Busch Gardens on the Sarangeti Safari. The eland's horns were so big, it accidentally stuck its horns between the fence of the truck. I was so tempted to pet it!:)

The second flamingo exhibit only has two birds and they should just be replaced by, at least, another flamingo species.

@uszoo, I believe the zebras will all be moved to Africa! and will be replaced by another species in Wildlife Canyon

@Moebelle, the second galago exhibit is a mixed species exhibit with Aardvark and Indian Flying Fox so it's not like with the Lions and flamingos where they are both found alone in their exhibits. I saw at least three Emperor Scorpion exhibits- two in World of Insects, and one in Jungle World. Where are the additional macaw, Aardvark, and Bearcat exhibit? Are you referring to the nursery for the later two? Technically, the Potto have four exhibits- two for themselves, and two in mixed exhibits. Though the second one in Night Hunters might just be separated temporarily while the Potto has a baby.

-Jungle Trails*;) The other bearcat exhibit is in the nursery, aardvark in the nursery, and the other macaw exhibit is in Discovery Forest. The potto exhibit in Night Hunters is not separated, it is meant to be a see through exhibit. So they are not mixed with the aardvarks, galagos, and bats. The only one's that are mixed are with the bamboo lemurs in Jungle Trails.

Will the Red River Hogs then be in the zebra exhibit after they are moved?

The reason why there are only two flamingos in the exhibit is because those are the one's used for the "Flamingo Walks" around the zoo. There are usually maybe seven of them usually in there and the other two are juveniles.

I noticed today that the zoo cut off some of this exhibit to make more room for the final phases.

Here's the latest words added to the Africa section of the zoo's website... 'Africa will be the largest and most ambitious wildlife exhibit in Cincinnati Zoo history. The next phase of Africa will include the addition of African wild dog, meerkat, gazelle, lesser kudu, impala, Ruppell’s vulture, crowned crane, and kori bustard.'

Excellent! I really thought they were going to put larger hoofstock into that small yard. they really like to pack it in, huh? I can't see the kori bustard working out. they can try, though. just like they will try to stuff hippos and an exhibit in there..
