Does anyone know more info on when Zambezi River Camp will actually open? There website just says Coming Soon but that's been up on the website for awhile. i really like to visit this zoo but im going to wait until the new hippo exhibit opens. I love my hippos!!!!
This business journal article published way back in 2004 says the zoo has raised 6 million of the 8 million needed for the hippos exhibit. What happened?
The project is slated to cost $17 million, open in spring of 2015, and it will not only include Nile hippos but also Nile crocodiles, flamingos, okapis, mandrills and various birds and fish.
That is a way off - they are behind schedule. But when it is done it will further solidify Memphis place as one of America's great zoos. It is already in my top ten, but that is largely due to the excellent cat area. (If I was a hoofstock nerd it would not rate very high).
