Memphis Zoo - Upcoming Exhibits Billboard

July 2008. 2009 is Teton Trek and 2010 is Zambezi River Hippo Camp.
Does anybody know what the status of the new Memphis hippo exhibit is? Is it going to open this year?

I believe it is scheduled to open around summer 2015. The zoo put out bids for construction at the end of last year. I found the layout of the exhibit on Facebook it will have okapi, nile croc, hippo, flamingo and an unknown monkey species. This exhibit looks just like other over-themed exhibits they have built focused on the visitor. The visitor space looks huge compared to the exhibits. My major concern is that as with many hippo exhibits there is to little land area. Hippos split there time between land and water in the wild. Heres the link:https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.476403759046184.112990.475707475782479&type=3

Keep in mind that those images you found are early concept drawings.... the design team hadn't been selected yet. What is quilt this year may be quite different in many ways. Final exhibit designs rarely resemble concept plans

Am I the only one wondering about the name of this exhibit? Zambezi is a River in Southeast Africa (and only scratches the borders of Dem. Rep. Congo), meandering mostly thru Savannas, while the planned Okapis live in the dense forests in North Eastern Congo. I know there are a few exhibits in US zoos using the term "Congo" already, so why not name it Aruwimi River or Lindi River Hippo Camp (and replace the Flamingos maybe)? Or using a non geographical term like Kiboko River?
