Elephant Odyssey - Opening Day

It is finally open, today we got to see the $45 million Elephant Odyssey exhibit at the San Diego Zoo.
Well, you can hardly judge an exhibit by how well the zoo in question likes it. What do you expect any members of staff in San Diego to say? "Uh, this is all crap. Sorry about that folks, looked better in the drawings".

I don't a problem with the utila-trees or whatever they're called. The exhibit as a whole is quite good.

No, but generally when an exhibit doesn't turn out so good they don't really advertise it so much and make a huge deal out of it.

If it costs $45million, then i'm sure they want a return on that. Not promoting the exhibit would be an extremely foolish decision.

Oh, you mean like the elephant house in Copenhagen Zoo or Gorilla Kingdom in London Zoo? Wait a minute, no... They both were heavily advertised. Just two off the top of my head.

Sorry about the sarcasm but that argument doesn't really hold up.

Can you give us any examples of a multi-million dollar exhibit that, once opened, wasn't promoted because it wasn't any good?

Yep, Amazon & Beyond in Miami. It was a big deal up until it opened. right after it opened they sort of stopped heavily advertising it, which is understandable because it cost 50 million dollars and it is not too far from the ordinary.

I don't think you're comparing apples to apples. Who advertises an exhibit after its initial opening season?
Both Elephant Odyssey and Amazon And Beyond were heavily pushed through ads and PR as they opened. I suppose in 6 months if EO still fills billboards and newspaper ads and TV spots your comparison would hold.

Show us an example that really compares to EO please.
