Hog badger (Arctonyx collaris)

at Tangjiahe Nature Reserve, Sichuan. I watched this individual for about an hour as it foraged for food. Amazing animal.

That's great, shame you missed the Tibetan fox though! Is this the "highlight" mammal so far?

I would say yes, maybe equal with raccoon dog. But I knew where to find the raccoon dogs whereas the hog badgers were completely random so I think that makes them top. Especially because I wasn't ever expecting to see them in daylight!

Well I'm suitably impressed! :) Lucky you, I would happily trade (at least) a finger to see a wild hog badger or either of the two canine species you've seen recently.

Fear not for at least one of your fingers; there are raccoon dogs at Gentleshaws, which is not unduly far away from you!

@Chlidonias: you mentioned that you watched this hog badger for an hour, and I'm curious as to where you were in proximity to the animal. Were you in a hide of some sort or was this photo taken from fairly far away? Wasn't it cold?:)

Really? How long have they had them then?

And my fingers are still safe, I'm only willing to trade fingers for wild specimens! :p
