I am not a wind up merchant what would i have to gain from it nothing at all!! I simply said what i saw and leave it at that i will not have others trying to rubbish it .i totally stand by it.how dare you or anyone call me a wind up merchant.u have no right whatsoever.

Here are the absolutes. Accept them if you want, but these are the facts.

1. The Shoebill Stork is a non-migratory bird of central-east Africa. It never leaves its range.
2. There have been no documented sightings of wild Shoebills outside of Africa.
3. The most northerly report of a Shoebill within the last 100 years is a sighting in South Sudan, which is nearly 500 kilometers outside of its usual range.
4. Shoebills are not currently kept in captivity in the UK anywhere. Nearest captive birds are in Belgium.
5. The last captive Shoebill in the UK was in Bristol in 1968. Before that, London had them in the 1950s, 1912-18, and the 1860s. Edinburgh also had them in 1954.

The skeptical motto is "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." If you can provide evidence, we will believe you. Otherwise, please listen to people who might be more versed in the subject and have reasons and documentation to counter your argument. Being wrong is a noble position to be in - if you accept it.

Methinks the lady doth protest too much....

I do not care that u dont believe it not one bit. I have told of what i had seen.if a professional bird spotter had seen it ppl are quick to believe it .but when an ordinary person with not alot of knowledge about birds tells of what they have seen every one doubts it .

Just to get something straight; it is not the fact that you are an amateur that makes this unbelievable - I am not a professional birder either, but I have seen some very nice stuff before - but rather the fact that not a single professional birder between Rotherham and Central Africa saw the shoebill you claim was in your area for a significant period of time :p

it is not impossible. Im not saying they migrated or anything

So how do you propose they got to your garden? Possibly a TARDIS? :p

Mind you, considering you claim to be living in Rotherham, but have posted over the course of today with several IP addresses indicating you are variously in Birmingham, Derby, a village in Warwickshire and Plymouth, maybe you are the one with a TARDIS.....
