@ Baldur don`t worry will not let you get lost so you have to use one of these maps!!
@ Dicerorhinus as to who sanctioned this is an interesting question to which at the moment I cannot answer!!
@ reduakari Heart of Africa has not been abandoned, because of the current economic climate the zoo is doing a part of the zoo`s expansion which they can build with little or no borrowing from the bank,so instead of being the first part of the plan Heart of Africa could be the final part done now!!
Basically there are multiple phases in the Natural Vision project that were in a rough order of priority and of which Heart of Africa was planned to be the first. Given that the amount of funding required for that will not now be available straight away (as noted in the press release), HoA has been moved down the priority list and the relatively affordable Islands is now in the number one spot. Although it won't happen for at least a few years and over that time things are always prone to change, for now Heart of Africa has not been dropped altogether, just pushed back.
The Islands press release does actually try to say this, but it's so couched in Press Release Language that it's hard to tell!

Why "Adventure Map"? This is just horrible. Treating visitors like children in a way that a serious zoo never would. it just sums up all that is awful about British zoos. Can you imagine Cologne, or Zurich, or Berlin doing this?
Couldn't agree more, however, I think that British zoo's should start to become more like the Dutsch (german) zoo's. Could this re-branding campaign finally see chester knocked off the top as the best zoo in Britain (whichi believe it could be said it has held since 1991) and see Edinburgh Take over?

No I don't see it being knocked off the top spot, but I do think its a very real possibility that the map could be dropped, given how poor it is to read and use to get round the zoo!
To be fair, I could find my way around if I had this map but I'm familiar with the layout anyway. To your average first-timer, I think they're going to be screwed!
And is it just me or do they seem to have lost Flag Lane?
Yes, I probably was being a little extreme, however, I do agree that it could be dropped, as it just looks unprofetional and awkward! Why did chester even need a re branding capmaign? I thought that the old map was lovely, one of the best I'd seen!
