This would have been one of the last Tasmanian Devils in Europe. I was not to see another one until I visited Taronga Zoo some 15 years later. It was in an easy-to-miss enclosure across the pathway on the left side of the Riviera Hall if I remember correctly, but I was eleven years old at the time.
I'm afraid they have only had them for about two years. I think Europe had no Tasmanian Devils for 10-15 years, prior to the arrival of the Copenhagen ones. I would love to know which zoos also had Tasmanian Devils at the time this photo was taken and when the last one in Europe died out.
I think Blijdorp or Berlin had the last ones in Europe, until Berlin.
Baldur, do you have more pictures of them or of the enclosure? I never saw any pictures of it.

I wish I had more photos. My dad took it, I was only eleven. I remember that the animal kept pacing up and down along the shed in the background. It was 18 years ago but memorable, even if at the time I had no idea how rare the beast in front of me was, and that it would be 15 years until I would see another one.
I recall that this Tasmanian Devil was kept in an easy-to-miss small fenced enclosure next to the Riviera Hall. I have the guidebook but cannot see any sign of the enclosure. Maybe if I still had the big fold-out map and not just the small one in the guidebook. Anyhow, we were walking away from the Big Cat House and about to enter the Riviera Hall when I saw something moving behind this rusty fence next to the Hall, and dragged my dad and brother there. It would have been so easy to miss.
Could anyone from the Netherlands confirm where the enclosure was please? My recollection is that it was next to the Riviera Hall, but as I was eleven at the time, I may be wrong.
