Thank you very much for confirming the location of the enclosure. Even if it was 18 years ago, I remembered it was very close to the Riviera Hall, but where exactly I had no idea. Do you think this was their only animal at the time?
The International Zoo Yearbook census of rare animals in captivity 1991 lists the following Tasmanian Devils in Europe . Budapest 1.0 , Cologne 1.1 , Rotterdam 1.0 .
I remember the pair housed in the Clore at London Zoo in the 1980's . The IZYB shows them being there in 1985 , Rotterdam then had 2.2 , as did Cologne .
OK so the chances are that Budapest and Cologne had the last one, as well as Rotterdam of course but it depends on if someone knows when the above one died. Someone mentioned Berlin Zoo as well. I had heard London Zoo had them in the Clore in the 1980s but they would have been dead at the time.
I've seen the Devils on numberous visits and as the map shows they were on the right side of the entrance of the Riviera-hal. I can remember more then one animal althrough I didn't like Tasmanian devils at that time.
Had a look in the International Zoo Yearbook and during 1981 Rotterdam had 2 males and 1 female. Other European collections with Devils during 1981 :
Artis Amsterdam 1.2
Cologne 1.1
Duisburg 1.1
London 1.1
