Found in garden ID please?

While digging down about 2ft I came across this beautiful thing did put it back after refilling he area while building a new wall.

I am totally useless at naming species other than birds so any help would be great.

Adding a few more images to help.
It looks like the grub of a cockchafer beetle (Melolontha melolontha) to me.

This is what it is. They occur all over the world and are a pasture pest. If you have enough of them they will cut all the roots off plants and you can roll the grass up like turf you buy.
