I called them wild, as that is what the guide on the train said. I think they aren't controlled as much as sheep for example, but maybe more like ponies on a nature reserve, or at least some of them, as they're quite wild seeming when you see them in person.
@ Macaw16 sometimes people need to know when to so okay what I was told isn't quite correct, now is the time for this thread! For the record I am personal friends with one of the Reindeer herders, and they do not regard them as wild or feral as they all will come when called no matter how far away,as for you sheep and pony comment all I can say is bollocks! They are just like any group of hoofstock that is managed from human benefit!
Also I have seen them many times in the Cairngorms, they are not wild if you want to see a wild domestic animal go and visit the Chillingham Cattle!!!!
I am sorry I was wrong, I got my information from the train driver, who spoke about it at the start of the journey. Also in a conversation about these reindeer with a reputable member, they said that they classed them as wild.
I'm glad it is all over. I would like to thank Macaw16 for admitting to being wrong. I hope he has has learnt a lesson here, do not believe everything guides tell you. Sometimes they do not know, sometimes they can be an excellent source of information.
No problem. As I stated with the "wild" horse comparison, even authorities often use the wrong terms, which causes much confusion to the general public. Very big of you to admit the misunderstanding.
