There are so many animals that even in my lifetime have had a name change...Siberian tiger/Amur tiger, fairy penguin/little penguin, indian elephant/asian elephant and so on and so forth.

Indian Elephant is a subspecies of Asian Elephant, so that just relfects the fact that most captive elephants are of unknown/hybrid origin.

Just about made my peace with Siberian to Amur because it reflects a place name correction - like with Celebes Macaque to Sulawesi Macaque.

I wasn't aware there was a change from Fairy Penguin to Little Penguin - I've always known them as synonyms. Why was that changed?

But that's what I'm saying.... Celebes was the actual previous name of sulawesi, but Amur Tigers used to inhabit siberia.

Yes, but both are changes to keep the name accurate, albeit for different reasons (left to me, I would probably have stuck with Siberian, for what its worth!). In the example above - I probably wouldn't have objected too much to Malayan Gharial becoming Sunda Gharial because that would better reflect the distribution. The change from False to Malayan seems to just be PR.

lol, the subject has so changed, i love the gharial as there so unique, they look different to the other crocs and alligators, lol, ofcourse, although sadly i have never seen one, could someone tell me if there are any in the uk
