@Arizona Docent Yes, unfortunately it isn't very well known outside of Brazil (though they do have strong connections to the Cincinnati zoo and some NGO's in the USA) or indeed inside the country either but they do some excellent work in conserving native feline species and rescuing them despite very limited funding.
I was there for meetings a couple of times at the begining of this year and from memory they currently have several jaguars, pumas, ocelots, Geoffroy's cats, oncillas , jaguarundi, margays and pampas cats. The pampas cats they have (four if I remember correctly) are particularly impressive and last year they managed to breed them so have a pair of kittens which are rapidly maturing.
@Arizona Docent I most definitely agree but I would also add that this is almost certainly due to there not being any breeding pairs of pampas cat being kept outside of South America.
It is quite a sad irony really because the Neotropical feline centre have many individual wild cats both of the pampas species and others which could be sent to zoos in the USA or Europe for captive breeding purposes.
