This indoors isn't that bad, but because the outdoor enclosure is occupied by a group of malayan tigers, the 2 siberian tigers, do spend all their time here and it is absolutely not suited for that.
Certainly on the day we were there the tiger groups rotated partway through the day. Far from ideal, I agree, but they do not spend all their time here.
@Maguari, I think the quote "There are a number that certainly would benefit from additional furnishing" is a bit an understatement. Most of the exhibits need much more furnishing, the most striking example is the mangabey enclosure.... Most exhibits need structure and are boring to see for the visitors.
The mangabeys' was certainly one of the enclosures I had in mind. I really don't agree that 'most exhibits... are boring to see'. They're not elaborate, but they show the animals well (which are after all the real attraction, rather than the enclosures).
@Maguari, on my visit in july, both in the morning as in the afternoon, the siberians were inside....
It's true that the enclosures show the animals very well, but personally I look much better to an animal in a zoo like Magdeburg, where attention has been given to the design of the exhibit and were the animal fits much better....
We are discussing the entire Tierpark again. But this is one indoor exhibit which certainly does not need to be hidden. If I was in charge, however, I would have the Siberian tigers get a new enclosure somewhere else and have the remaining tigers use both inside and outside all day (even though some visitors may complain empty enclosures). If they put in a different substrate (or do they have some sand/ soil already?) some more trunks etc. it probably is (one of) the best indoor enclosure(s) I can think of.
Slightly confused by tigers at the Tierpark and trying to ID some pictures.....the signs show Siberian and Indochinese. Zootierliste shows Siberian, Sumatran and Malayan. Which is correct? If there are three species at the Tierpark....where are the third ones kept?
On my first visit (2009), indoor enclosure labelled as Indochinese and outdoors Siberian.
