Wow I need to get my eyes checked... although I thought Luca and Zambucca were displayed seperately so once I saw her I wasnt really looking for him. It's nice to know they get to spend time together.
I have no clue why I thought they were seperated. I probably just stopped looking when I found one and never noticed the other... Im my case I seem to find Luca but never Zambucca which given the shadows and me only looking for one could explain it all.
Just to touch on why musk ox where ultimately not included in Tundra Trek...
The Temple area was originally slated to be demolished, with musk ox and caribou (?) exhibits destined to be in their place. However, this didn't occur for a few reasons...
The main reason was that it simply did not fit into the budget. Musk ox are obviously large, strong, and sometimes aggressive animals. These factors = heavy duty fencing. Heavy duty fencing = too much $, which ultimately led to them being cut out of the plans.
Furthermore, our musk ox program at the time wasn't much (one elderly, neutered male who was proven to be incompatible with other musk ox), so this meant that we would have had to bring in more musk ox and start fresh. Could have been done I suppose. However, in casual terms, the attitude was "why bother" and they were ultimately phased out.
Personally, once the beavers and otters move to new exhibits, I would love to see their current exhibits be renovated for the jaguars.
I understand why the musk oxen were not included, but I'm still disappointed that it never happened. They're one of my favourite hoofstock species.
I also think that the jaguars should move into the beaver and otter exhibits once they move out. It would be really cool if underwater viewing could be used because I've always wanted to see a jaguar swim.
