Jersey Green Lizard Enclosure

The Green lizard, Lacerta bilineata is currently in pretty good health here in Jersey, which is the only Channel Isle the species is found on.

The Green lizards in the enclosure do breed occaisionally but they are not for rerelease as the previous project for sand lizards was.

thanks for the answers. I wonder why Jersey is the only island with Green Lizard? Do you think they might have been introduced- it seems very unlikely given their wide distribution on Jersey.

Do you have both Sand Lizard and Wall Lizard also?

Jersey was the last of the Channel Isles to become cut off from the mainland of France, by quite a long time infact.
It makes sense that the colonisation probably occurred after the other Islands had become seperate but Jersey was still land bound.
We have Podarcis muralis spp. here, they're under genetic research currently to determine the origins.

We have never had sand lizards native here, the sand lizards were kept and bred at the Trust for UK mainland release programmes :)
