JungleWorld Original Plan

Shows internal lay out of JungleWorld with original animal species (not inclusive) noted.
I was going to say that but I wasn't sure if they could be seen in both the last room and the Malayan Tapir room as I know I've only ever seen them in the tapir room.

- Last year I saw one just above the underwater viewing area, so I guess he has full run of anything in the room.

You should look a little more carefully at the plan and pay attention when you visit: the " Malayan tapir room" and " last room" are one and the same, with the gibbons, squirrels, birds and bats having the run of the entire area. The tapirs are contained in a riverbed on one end, while the turtles (and formerly gharials) are similarly contained by mudbanks on the opposite end of the single large room.

Well then I guess you're right. I've just never noticed any cross-over of species on the two sides. And how exactly would I be able to notice that there's no wall in between when visiting?

I have seen Painted Storks, Comb Ducks, and a Radjah Shelduck in here. If I remember correctly I've also seen Pied Avocets in here as well. Great Indian Hornbills used to be in here but I don't think they are anymore. I'm sure there are other small passerines I'm forgetting about.

Thanks. Amazing, New York is the only city in world keeping Pied Avocets in a Tropical rainforest building...not really the natural habitat for them....

But there should be much more, smaller Bird species in teh main Part of Jungle World, than only Ducks, Painted Storks and Pied Avocets ?

I believe so. I think Yellow-Faced Mynah was in there not long ago. I saw them in World of Birds recently so they may have been moved.

@ThylacineAlive How much does the 2020 version of Jungleworld resemble the original site plan here? Other than the proboscis monkeys no longer being present, is it pretty much the same?

@DavidBrown hi, I'm not @ThylacineAlive, but I did just visit the Bronx Zoo. Overall, not much has changed. Gharials actually were finally added a few years ago, and I have inserted a picture that I took on my last visit. The proboscis monkeys were replaced with Javan langurs, and after the otters killed one (as you may know about), they were moved to the former binturong habitat. I don't remember pythons being held anywhere near the river habitat with the gharials, but overall any differences between Jungleworld at its opening and today seem relatively minor.

@evilmonkey239 You know the fake tree trunk that hangs over the sitting area for the underwater viewing of the gharials/turtles? That used to have a python in it (per Thylo).
Otters now share with the tree kangaroos. There's a few chevrotain in the raised land area before the gharials.
