A couple of points from a visitor point of view: at certain times of day and year (I think spring/summer in the late afternoon) the sun shines at an angle which produces reflections on the day room windows making viewing very difficult from what I can remember.
Also the open public viewing area means it isn't great for hanging around and watching the gorillas in the winter. Actually in general it isn't really conducive to watching them for any amount of time, more for a constant flow of people which is a shame in my view.
Well seem Bristol zoo agree and prefer ZSL's style of day room as there is a picture of it on the plans for the expanded day room at Bristol on the design brief along the bottom of the page.
I think you will find there are various small pictures from other zoos fitted in here as 'artistic impression' and they don't reflect any real change that will happen. They may have used that shot as London's is certainly better lit than Bristol's so probably looks better in a small photo-there are some of other zoos' outdoor enclosures too. In the text it says the reason they want to enlarge the area is (partly) to create 'isolation dens' in order to seperate the animals and make their management easier. London have the offshow cages whereas Bristol just has one small offshow room.
I haven't seen him yet but I believe he is average/good sized for a male his age- although probably full-grown now he's nothing like fully developed regarding his sagittal crest/thick arm hair etc so will look bigger and more impressive as he matures.
Regarding introductions- I haven't heard anything recently but imagine maybe they are waiting until the baby is a bit older/stronger before they try an introduction of them all together.
