A postcard in a series of 5, I bought on Ebay in January 2010. This card shows the famous Savanna with asian elephants, white rhino , zebras, antiolpe , Tapir, birds and cattles. This enclosure was built 1965. In the backround you see the Gibbon house. Some one how knews when it was build? I am not sure about when the photo is taken, 1967? 1970?

@rillekolmard
Thanks a lot for the video and the suggestions on books to read!

@nicholas
The tigers were not set free? If you say so, then I am sure it is true. I am remembering the story from a tv-series that I watched 30 years ago and I could have sworn that the tigers were set free, but apparently it must be my imagination running away with me...

Will have to get hold of the book suggested by rillekolmard!

Just like Nicholas says the tigers are not wild, they where put to sleep in Borås Zoo many years ago. And the white tapir drowned in the fjord Bråviken when it escpe from the new Enclosure in the Safaripark.

Very nice set of postcards! I did not know/remember that Kolmården, just like Borås, mixed elephants and rhinos once upon a time....

.... though Asian elephants and tapirs together with zebra etc, hmmm.....

Strange mix!

Hi Dan (sorry for late answer)
It was even more strange. The Savanna (not African then!) was inhabited by watussi cattle, white rhino, zebras and giraffes (reticulated and baringo) from Africa, elephants, axis deers, Java bantengs (domesticated?), blackbucks from Asia and lowland tapires from S-A. The birds were demoiselle, saurus and crowned cranes, marabou storks, peafowls and helmeted guineafowl. Later in the seventies there was some African antilopes added. Now it's all African I belive.
I always liked the savanna at Boras better (established in 1963?). African from start with a good mix of species.
