I know exactly how you feel zooman I love the idea of all the old enclosures a typical "Zoo" but the thinking about the poor inmates leaves me cold. But I also love immersion exhibits. Maybe the old enclosures with an add on immersion area would be my ideal.

It would be very Interesting to see where the animal spent more time if the environment was replicated.
Particularly given that the animals were often fed by the public in the old enclosures
Leeds is a city that a German or American visiting the UK might well anticipate having a zoo. but none has survived. Ditto Glasgow, Cardiff, Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle.
On the photo with a sign it says the Bears lived in the circular pit which was viewed from the turrets. The turrets are clearly still there but has the circular pit gone now? Was it in front of, or behind this building?

I suppose Tropical world at Roundhay park is all they have now, which is better than either Manchester or Newcastle. Though there was supposed to be a "zoo" opening at Kirkley Hall Ponteland just outside the City of Newcastle, but I'm not sure how far with it they've come with this more I believe it's mainly a petting zoo , but at least it's a start.

The collection has recieved quite a few nice little species from collections such as Chester, Lotherton and Lakeland Wildlife Oasis in the past year, including Red-crowned Crane, Southern Helmeted Curassow and Cotton-top Tamarin.
