It looks better than I thought it would TLD I wondered if it had closed as I used to get email updates from last year but then they all stopped.
At least it may give me a reason other than family duty to return to Tyneside more often. In fact my brother is a dog handler with Northumbria police also based in Ponteland I shall have to ask him if he knows about it.
I assumed it was part of the collage, I had the choice 30 odd years ago to go to either Kirkley hall or Houghal collage in Durham for my city in guilds in Horticulture,Oddly it was easier as a none driver to get to Durham hence I've never been to KH.

On the photo with a sign it says the Bears lived in the circular pit which was viewed from the turrets. The turrets are clearly still there but has the circular pit gone now? Was it in front of, or behind this building?
The circular Pit is between the 2 towers,I know it doesn't look circular but the area is!

Thankyou ZG. If I was ever in Leeds or Sheffield (both unlikely!:() I would certainly try to have a look at these relics from a bygone era.

Does anybody know how old this cage is? Was there once a whole animal collection along with the bear castle, or was it a standalone structure?
