Riziki, i don't know if you know this, but many years ago there were plans to turn the mappins into a huge Gorilla Mountain, but these were dropped

I did know this i have found a copy of a masterplan when this was the main subject it seemed like a brilliant idea do you know why it was dropped?

That could have worked, although there would be problems with the indoor housing.
Wasn't it going to have a Planet of the Apes theme though?

@Riziki and CZJimmy:

As far as I know, the last inhabitants of the exhibit (before it changed into an "Australian Walkabout") were Sloth Bears (with Hanuman-Langurs and Reeves Muntjacs for a while) not Asiatic Black Bears!

Also (but this is just my personal opinion) the Bears were really activ as I visited them. Maybe because there were two cubs.

I can't recall saying they were Asiatic Black Bears...

I visited the 'bear mountain' twice - once shortly after it opened and once shortly before it closed. I don't remember much about the first time, but only the langurs stuck in my memory. The time before it closed, 2 bears were sleeping and one was having a slow walk around the enclosure

There is a way that London Zoo could keep it an Aussie theme (and this does look very good!) and have an active, majestic species-all they need to do is import some dingos :D

When i visited a few weeks back no one was really taking much notice of this enclosure, even the sleeping Bears in the corner made a better exhibit. You could argue this is because the zoo doesnt feature the enclsoure in the guidebook or map but i doubt it makes much different.
